Stone Hill Award-Winning Wines

Held Family Photo

Stone Hill Winery is truly a family operation. Since Jim and Betty Held reopened the winery in 1965, they have been joined by three of their children who hold degrees in enology and viticulture (the sciences of wine making and grape growing).

Marvel at the history and beauty of Hermann, Missouri, nestled on the banks of the mighty Missouri River. Founded by German settlers, the majestic rolling countryside reminded the Old Country pioneers of their beloved Rhine Valley homeland. Their new world is now part of America's richest wine making heritage.

Stone Hill Winery

The stately main building was built in 1869 and remains the center of activities. Put on hiatus by Prohibition, Stone Hill Winery has been restored to its former glory for all ages to enjoy and experience.

Stone Hill Winery is an intriguing union of old and new wine making techniques. The historic winery buildings and cellars embrace the state-of-the-art equipment used to make award-winning wines. It's a working showcase illustrating the evolution of making fine wines.

Wine Tasting

Vaulted Wine Cellar

The secret is beneath! Taking 22 years to construct, the vaulted cellars of Stone Hill Winery are one of America's architectural wonders. Come walk through these grand cellars where wine is now being produced with the same tender loving care that made Stone Hill the third largest pre-Prohibition winery in the world.

Winning international gold as early as 1851, Stone Hill Winery grew to become America's second largest wine producer with an annual production of over 1 million gallons.

Wine Testing

Wine Sampling

Emerge from the depths of Stone Hill's cavernous wine cellars and step into the historic hallways of the main building. Surrounded by the winery's collection of historic medals and memorabilia, you will enjoy samples of their current vintages. Your tour concludes in the beautiful gift shop, where you will find an array of unique gifts and award-winning wines for your selection.

Located beside the winery in what was once a fine old carriage house, the restaurant presents a unique setting for dining and relaxing. The menu offers a variety of European specialties along with a selection of exciting appetizers, steaks, and seafood.
